Meeting the Spirit: I get tongues, Gary gets slain.

Sorry you had such a freaky experience. I have had some genuine encounters with the Holy Spirit that brought unexpected and wonderful experiences. I have also been pushed. I think that (having spent years as a Baptist and a charismatic) many people spend a lot of energy TRYING to experience God in a proscribed way (on both sides of the fence). We've finally found a church where the gifts are welcomed but not sought to the exclusion of other important aspects of worship and service. It's refreshing.

LOLROTF! You should have come with me to the Pentecostal Bib le College i attended. The first year there, in Sept., we had an Evangelist come thru whose claim to fame had to do with "slaying" people in the Spirit. By the time he came thru i was lonely and more than a little pissed off -- they had a rule book about as thick as a London telephone directory, and i was having, the Dean of Men informed me, problems with authority. I lined up with everyone else, but when he came to me i refused to go down.. he than stepped on my right foot and pushed hard -- and i straggered back but managed to catch my balance.

meanwhile, the two guys vying to be class president were both busy having a mystical experience. Both of 'em fell over before the guy could even shove them -- only one had poorly positioned himself, and when he fell he hit the steps to the podium, and cut his head. With blood everywhere, they had to take him to get stiches, and he lost, because obviously, he wasn't "spiritual" enough! Like i said, you'd have really hated it there on the North Dakota Plains....

Holy bloodbaths!

Sounds like your 'problems with authority' saved you from a potential concussion.

I'm a stringbean - I would have gone down in a flash. But dammit, I'd have taken the varmint with me.

Sounds like you're onto a winner with that church of yours, Tim. Incidentally, I've had some good experiences too, details of which I'll try post at some point. It's not all bad... And, to be honest, I find it all so endearing, the idea of suburbanites desperately hungering for a touch of the divine, that I'm not sure I'd change it if I could. Although if things got like they are in Christianity in the Raw's comment, I might feel different! Thanks for ploughing through such a hefty post, BTW. Will keep 'em snappier in future.

I love it. My Grand girls want the fullness of the Lord Spirit. Running behind me saying I want the language....I want the language..

Thanks, Dee. Sounds like you have some lively ones there!

They're cute and more than lively. I love singing in the spirit and they hang on to every word.......what does it mean. I just tell then I love singing to the Lord. There are telltale signs as to where a person has been. For instance, if someone saw you with a bright red sunburn, they could assume you were outside for the day. The evidence is there.

I wonder if people can tell if we have “been with Jesus”? The reason I say that is because that was said of Peter and John–that they “had been with Jesus.”

What does that mean exactly? It meant that they were like Him in so many ways, and even their opponents could see it.

The Bible says, “The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men who had had no special training. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13 NLT).

Can people tell that you have “have been with Jesus”? Or, to put it another way, if you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

Could a person tell when you have just come from a worship service? Is there anything different about your behavior than the other guy out there? The way you live, the way you treat your family, your attitude?

Can people tell you “have been with Jesus”?

That is the title of my message for this Sunday morning. I hope you can check it out either live or on our webcast.

Take some time today to read His Word and pray. Ask that your life would reflect His glory to a watching world. Pray that people will be able to tell that you “have been with Jesus.”

Greg

Thanks for sharing this. You did a great job of writing it; I could almost picture the scene.

Really nice of you to say so, Tom - thanks very much. I'm glad you left a comment, as it directed me over to your wonderful blog, which I've been reading with a big grin.

Thanks for that, Dee - I've just checked out Greg's website and blog. Good stuff.

...if you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

That's such a great way of putting it. Personally, I don't think I'd even get a caution.

Blessings to you and the girls - it's wonderful that they have you to inspire and enthuse them.
